How friendly are we really?

According to Business Standard

  • A Pakistani citizen has to get a separate visa for each city that he is scheduled to visit in India. If he arrives in Delhi, he will need a separate visa for Delhi. If he wants to visit the Taj, he will need another visa for Agra, and of course a third visa for going to Bangalore. Without such city-specific visas he cannot go to any city in India. This is a big departure from all international visa procedures. If I as an Indian go to the US, I do not need separate visas for New York, Boston, San Francisco, etc. Similarly, visitors to India from any country other than Pakistan do not need separate visas for each Indian city.
  • The visitor from Pakistan has to report to the police station nearest to his hotel—within 24 hours of his arrival in each city. This can literally make the man run from one police station to another, as happened to our visitors in Bangalore. The hotel in which they stayed did not know which police station had jurisdiction over that hotel, as most hotels have very little to do with police stations. So our Pakistani visitors had to visit five police stations before they could establish which particular station had jurisdiction over their hotel! This itself took a couple of days, despite the best efforts of the host company. You can imagine the frustration of having to go from pillar to post, especially when the pillar and the post are uninviting police stations that are also citadels of suspicion and rudeness.
  • Each of these visitors had to get a residential permit from each police station on his arrival and again report to the station to obtain a departure certificate 24 hours before departure. And this procedure had to be repeated at each city. Every time copies of documents like passport, hotel declaration and residential permit had to be submitted to each police station.

Insync 3D based on Croquet?

April 28th, 2006 Comments off

Croquet..a new open source software platform for creating deeply collaborative multi-user online applications. It features a network architecture that supports communication, collaboration, resource sharing, and synchronous computation among multiple users. Using Croquet, software developers can create powerful and highly collaborative multi-user 2D and 3D applications and simulations.

Is 3D interface is future? What are the possible realworld applications with 3D interfaces?
Is smalltalk beter than JAVA? Can Croquet replace Eclipse RCP for 3D applications?

Even not having these answers clearly…I can say that ..
Present GUI provided by Eclipse is not enough for future applications.
JAVA have to make itself ready to compete with Microsoft’s Avalon new SVG like GUI interface.

Is this the way software has to be?

April 24th, 2006 1 comment

I have been using computers from last 10 years. Even though there are people who used it for 30 years..I can say that I know pretty much about them. When I say computers I mean software. Without software hardware is of no use. We have seen the tremendous growth in hardware in recent years. There is nothing I have at present to complain about hardware except one thing(“Why some people are still using flopy-disk?”).

I have used so many software…operating systems, Net browsers, Mail clients, Office software, multimedia, cd writing, downloading software etc etc. Recently I have tried a voice recognition software. It worked more than my expectations. I was able to do chatting with it without using keyboard(if I pay more attention to how I am talking).

I got one question in mind after that…
“Is it the way the software(all software I used till now) has to be?”

The natural answer came is “No, they must be much better than they are at present”.
But I don’t have clear points to support this answer. When I talked to others I found that they also agree to my answer. But they also don’t have any alternatives to show.
To find out the actual facts about this issue I am planing to start an analysis. First I will try to list the points which are wrong about present software. And then propose my alternative plan if above analysis shows that alternative is needed and possible.
